VISUAL
TRANSCRIPTIONS

As a professional saxophonist with deep roots in the UK's thriving jazz scene, I've spent many years performing several gigs per week. My musical journey is exceptionally fulfilling but after a twenty year hiatus from painting, I felt a compelling urge to bridge my two passions: jazz and visual art.

Inspired by the dynamic energy of improvised music and the structured beauty of geometric abstraction, I embarked on a new creative venture. My work is a synthesis of these disciplines, where each painting is a visual transcription of a musical piece. The pitch, rhythm and expression of the music are translated into angular forms with a predominantly monochromatic palette consistent with musicians' manuscript.

Each painting starts with a fragment or opening theme of a song. Musical notes are transformed into geometric shapes, creating a visual mirror of the auditory experience. This approach allows me to share the essence of improvised music in a fresh, visual format. My paintings invite viewers to not only see the music but to feel its rhythm and flow in a new dimension.
By merging these two worlds, I aim to create a harmonious dialogue between sound and sight, offering my perspective on the interconnectedness of art forms.
